SMGS Sports Update

Basketball: Congratulations to the boys 1st year basketball team who won their match on the 3rd of Feb. They beat Ballincollig Community School (23-12). Well done lads. 💪🏼🏀

Soccer: Having made it to the quarter finals, SMGS were up against CBS Clonmel in the Munster Cup. Much like the previous match, a host of injuries meant a change in formation and personnel, however unlike last time it was clear from the start that it was going to be a very tough match. Despite being on the back foot, Blarney took the lead after Niall Cremin delivered a free kick perfectly on to the head of Michael O’Mahony, who finished with ease. Within 5 minutes though, Clonmel had equalised with a bullet from the edge of the box after some slack marking. Blarney made it to half time level, but despite a re-jig in formation and a couple of fresh legs, the opposition were definitely the better side, and scored 2 goals in the second half to progress. Congratulations to our squad however, who made it through 3 rounds despite many illnesses and injuries throughout the campaign.
