SSE in SMGS 2024/25

This year 2 out  of the 4 of our SSE targets are focused on second years. They are as follows:

Target 1: The first target is to reduce the number of lates among second years students. Baseline data was recorded during  a 4 week period from Jan 13th to February 7th with lates recorded on VSWare during that period. We will be recording the lates again in the first 4 weeks after the Easter Holidays for comparison data. It is hoped that by  staff, students and parents working together that we will reduce the number of lates.  

Target 2:  The second target is to reduce the number of absences for medical appointments with second years students. During a 4 week period from Jan 13th to February 7th absences due to medical appointments were recorded on VSWare. We will be recording those absences again in the first 4 weeks after the Easter Holidays.  Again it is hoped that by  staff, students and parents working together that we can reduce the number absences.  

A whole school approach is best for us to achieve the two targets above. 

These are the initiatives that are planned to help us work towards the targets.

1. Ms O’ Sullivan (Junior Liaison Support teacher), Catherine O'Sullivan SNA and Yr Head Ms Corcoran are providing focused support to the students  who had a number of lates from Jan 13th to Feb 7th. 

2. A second year assembly was held where Ms Corcoran and the SSE Coordinator Inion Uí Iarlaithe spoke to 2nd years about the importance of  punctuality and  attendance during this important last term in 2nd year. The SSE process and targets were also mentioned.

3. A parent information email on the benefits of punctuality will be emailed to all second year parents.

4. Specific staff designed posters focusing on punctuality and attendance will be will be put up in the second year classrooms and spares will be left on the SSE noticeboard in the staffroom for staff. The posters have been  approved by the SSE team and they are also attached to this email. 

5. A student poster campaign has been started to raise awareness among the students.

6. Student punctuality posters and student SSE updates will be posted on the relevant social SMGS social media sites. 

7. A whole staff email will be sent with general SSE updates which will include information on the 2 second year attendance and punctuality targets.
